Smoke Alarms

Everyone is familiar with smoke alarms – they alert us if they sense smoke from a fire. Smoke alarms are carefully placed near bedrooms, so we can hear them when we are asleep.

Since 1 August 1997, NSW law states that smoke alarms (complying with Australian standards AS 3786) must be installed in all homes, units, flats and townhouses.

It is the legal responsibility of all owners and landlords to install working smoke alarms. When did you last test your smoke alarms?

You need to test your alarms at least every 3 months. You need to clean them every 6 months to make sure they are clean from dust and cobwebs.

And every 10 years the whole unit needs to be replaced Are your smoke alarms less than 10 years old? Check them now!
